Who created the world's smallest game?
The world's Smallest Game was created by Sebastiaan Rockworth (AKA Sebastiaan van Waardenberg). The former Lead Gamedesigner at Gamehouse Studios. During his time at Gamehouse he was responsible for casual hit-games like: "Delicious: Emily's Taste of Fame" & "Heart's Medicine - Season one", both reviewed as the best click-management games of the year. Why was the world's smallest game created?
The World's Smallest Game was created to proof how much you can do in just 5 x 5 pixels. Currently you see game-developers obsessing over graphics and even though I CAN enjoy a game for it's art-style, it usually isn't the most important thing about a game. Personally I think a game should focus on gameplay and divide it's attention evenly over story, graphics, sound & all other aspects of a game. That's why I wanted to create a full game, where graphics weren't even part of the equation. There's just something very cool about giving a yellow pixel a personality.

In what was the world's smallest game created?
The World's Smallest Game was created in Game Maker 8, a great tool for any indie-developer. It quickly allows you to test your game and that's absolutely crucial for the success of your game. If you didn't know already, I LOVE GAMEMAKER.

Where can I read more about the world's smallest game?
Right now, this is all the info that is available, but I will start blogging about the game real soon on:
Dev-Blog

Can't you create a game with an even smaller resolution?
Sure, but it would be less fun. I needed 5x5 to implement a lot of the features in the World's Smallest Game. But soon you can judge for yourself, because I will add a link to my 1x1 pixel game.

Who deserves a lot of thanks?

  • Mark Overmars - The creator of Game Maker without which I would have never been able to create this game

  • Tom Schoen - A friend who is almost an ambassador of this game and helped me get in contact with a lot of important people.
